Mohawk College is located in Hamilton, Ontario and serves over 11 000 full-time students.  It has satellite campuses in Stoney Creek, Brantford, Perth and Ohsweken. Mohawk College has a wide-range of courses and programs in their 7 schools:

Accessibility Services

At Mohawk College, the centre providing accessibility services to students is called the Accessible Learning Services. Accessible Learning Services is the primary place to find out about all of your disability related needs.

Documentation Required

In order to access accommodations at Mohawk College, the following documentation is required to show proof of a disability:

Learning Disabilities and ADHD

  • Comprehensive psychoeducational assessment completed within the last 3-5 years or a letter or formal assessment or report (or the Medical Documentation Form) from a qualified practitioner (for students with ADHD)
  • Most recent documentation from school (IEP and/or IPRC)

Medical, Physical and Mental Health Disabilities

  • A letter from a qualified practitioner which includes details such as diagnosis, potential impact of disability in a college setting and recommended accommodations and supports
  • Students may choose to have their practitioner complete the Medical Documentation Form

Support Services Available

Health Services

Mohawk College Health Services is located on the Fennell campus, and is staffed by a variety of health practitioners, including registered nurses and family physicians.

Counselling Services

Mohawk College offers Counselling Services for any student who may be experiencing stressful events in their life.
 

Peer Mentoring

The Peer Mentor Program at Mohawk College is designed for first year students who would like to receive mentorship from upper year students, and is currently available for students at the main campus.

Academic Support

Located in the Learning Support Centre on Fennell campus, the Writing Centre and the Peer Tutoring Service at Mohawk College offers a variety of programs to help students with their academic writing and verbal communications.  Writing support and peer tutoring is also available at the IAHS and Stoney Creek campuses. 

Library Services

Mohawk College has libraries at the Fennell, IAHS, and Stoney Creek campuses. The libraries offer multiple services for students including borrowing services, interlibrary services, an APA guide, writing skills guide, quick reference guide, and a research survival guide.

Scholarships, Bursaries, and Awards

Mohawk College’s Financial Assistance Office offers a range of  financial assistance which consists of merit-based scholarships, need-based bursaries, and awards based on academic achievement. Information regarding Mohawk’s financial aid is available on their website, as well as complete lists of scholarships, bursaries, awards, and contact information.

Residence and Housing

On-Campus Housing

Mohawk College’s Residence Office offers apartment style accommodations for students at the Fennell campus. Residence allocation operates on a first-come, first-served basis and students not initially accepted will be placed on a waiting list. Each unit includes 2 private bedrooms, a small kitchenette and a shared washroom. Virtual room tours are available. Building amenities include:

  • Common lounges
  • Common study areas
  • Common kitchens
  • Access to a front desk
  • Maintenance
  • Laundry facilities

Each apartment comes furnished and includes internet access and local telephone services. Residence rates vary depending on year, and payment plans are available. Mandatory meal plans are an additional cost. 

Students who require special accommodation in residence can fill out the residence application form using the My Housing Portal. There is a spot under Medical, Accessibility, and Special Consideration section to indicate any special accommodations that are needed. Students must also submit appropriate documentation to support their request.

Off-Campus Housing

Mohawk College offers an off-campus housing through the Student Engagement service, where landlords can advertise rental properties available.

Getting Around

Campus Accessibility

Mohawk College offers campus maps and directions for each campus.

Hamilton Transit

The Hamilton Street Railway Company (HSR) is comprised of buses. Full-time students at Mohawk College receive a bus pass included in their tuition. Schedules are provided for each HSR bus route.

Accessibility

The HSR provides accessible transit services on their buses. All buses are equipped with Accessible Low Floors (ALF), ramps, and designated seating areas for persons with wheelchairs and scooters.

The Accessible Transportation Services (ATS) administers the multiple accessible transportation services in Hamilton including the Disabled and Aged Regional Transportation System (DARTS), and the Taxi Scrip Program. The ATS offers door-to-door, shared bus ride services to eligible and registered individuals. More information about ATS services, eligibility guidelines and application process is available on their website.
