In my role as special education resource teacher, I found the Transition Resource Guide to be an invaluable tool to prepare senior students for their transition to post-secondary.
Once the students matched their program at a particular college/ university with the accommodations listed for that institution, they were able to make an informed choice. They chose the institution where they would have access to the accommodations needed for their academic success. They planned their exit strategy from secondary school by using the transition checklist. The students in the learning strategies classes (GLE 40) at my high school explored different colleges and universities using theTransition Resource Guide. We also introduced the TRG at post-secondary information evenings with several grateful parents/guardians having an ‘eureka moment.
